Abstract
India has a diverse plant biodiversity, with many medicinal plants. Over-exploitation is causing the rich resource to disappear at an alarming rate. The use of medicinal plants is rapidly increasing worldwide due to increased demand for herbal drugs, natural health products, and secondary metabolites of medicinal plants. And, due to rapid population growth and intense competition for cultivable lands, obtaining plant-based compounds has become increasingly difficult. Dioscoreabulbifera, Linn the air potato, air yam, bitter yam, cheeky yam, potato yam, aerial yam, and parsnip yam plant, a well-known medicinal plant enlisted in ayurveda which is widely used by the tribals for the treatment of various ailments is reported in mandsaur district of Madhya Pradesh State. Dioscoreabulbifera, Linn is categorized as Endangered Medicinal Plant in India.
