Abstract

This article discusses the medicinal and therapeutic properties of three popular medicinal grasses: lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus), Bermuda grass (Cynodon dactylon), and bamboo grass (Bambusa spp.). It also discusses potential therapeutic extraction methods. Citral, which possesses antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant qualities, is abundant in lemongrass, a grassy essential oil plant. In traditional medicine, lemongrass is used to prevent cancer, help with digestion, and cure pain. Essential oils have demonstrated antibacterial and antifungal qualities in addition to terpenes like geranial and neral. Due to its antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties, it is used therapeutically in most tropical and subtropical regions. Extract was effective in treating problems including promoting urination and enhancing digestion.  Bamboo is an ancient species that diversified widely due to its many health benefits like anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial, as well as wound healing and respiratory support. Among the phytochemical compounds in the plant that are responsible for some healings are flavonoids and phenolic acids. Hence, these extraction techniques, such as solvent extraction, soxhlet extraction, and steam distillation, separate bioactive compounds and essential oils from these herbs for the achievement of medicinal value of them. There is significant interest in herbal medicine and further evidence of its effectiveness in clinical applications. These roots form an excellent prospect as natural resources in medicine, natural medicine, and agriculture.
